Director of the Economic Growth Office at USAID

Amy Beeler arrived to USAID/Uganda in 2022, serving as the Director of the Economic Growth Office. She previously served as the Economic Growth Office Director at USAID/Rwanda from July 2018 - June 2022 and has been an Economic Growth Officer with USAID since 2010. Amy previously served in the USAID Bureau for Resilience, Environment, and Food Security (REFS) focusing on increasing access to finance for agribusinesses. Prior to joining REFS, she served in Ethiopia where she led the Private Sector and Energy Team and in Tbilisi, Georgia focusing primarily on democracy work and conflict resolution. Prior to joining USAID, Amy’s work focused on refugee resettlement, immigration reform, and local economic development. She was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco and holds an MSc in Development Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London and a BA in Anthropology and African Studies from Boston University. She proudly grew up on a dairy farm in northeast Connecticut and tries to spend as much time as possible outdoors with her six year old son Declan.

Meg Hilbert Jaquay wears many hats. She is the MD of Jakana Foods Ltd, an all-natural food processing and packaging solutions company based in Kawempe Uganda specializing in dried fruit, juice, sauces, and jams. Since 2022, she has also served as the President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Uganda, and As the Chairperson of the AGOA Exporters Association of Uganda, she has become an expert in the requirements to export from Africa to the USA. Her mission is to use her 35+ years of project management experience to grow businesses. She began her career in 1985 in Silicon Valley working in Artificial Intelligence. As a process engineer, her experiences make her a unique, efficiency expert. She was born in New York and has been living in Kampala for over 10 years.

With over ten years of experience in carpentry, marketing, interior design, and community development through skilling, Evelyn brings a wealth of expertise to her role as General Manager of The American Chamber of Commerce of Uganda. Passionate about empowering women and creating a more inclusive workspace, Evelyn founded the Fundi Women Initiative which aims to train and support women who have survived human trafficking, early marriages, and young motherhood, providing them with skills in carpentry and its value chain. By doing so, Evelyn strives to bring gender equality to the male-dominated industry and foster economic empowerment for women while creating valuable employment opportunities. Evelyn's dedication and impact have not gone unnoticed. She received the Outstanding Community Social Impact Award in 2023 and was honored with the Women 4 Women Award for Best Businesswoman in Uganda in 2018. Her commitment to community development led her to become a Fellow through the U.S. Department of State's Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) at Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business in 2015. In addition, she served as President of the Uganda YALI Fellow Chapter from 2016 to 2017.

Crystal is a legal and tax professional with over 17 years of experience as a business advisor. Her key area of focus is corporate income tax, specializing in international taxation and transfer pricing. She also has a good understanding of other adjacent tax areas such as VAT, customs, and excise. She works closely with multinational corporations, revenue administrations, and tax policymakers in generating tax revenues to fund public expenditure while encouraging and growing private sector investment and participation in the national economy. She has a proven and demonstrable track record in resolving complex tax disputes and controversies, especially in transfer pricing primarily through alternative dispute resolution. Crystal is an ardent believer in leadership, mentorship, and service. She believes that leadership is not an event and needs no podium but rather, leadership is the sum of things that one does every day to make a difference within one’s sphere of influence.

Seren Davis grew up in rural North Wales. She has worked in international schools in Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Uzbekistan. Seren leads IB MYP workshops and is an IB school evaluation visitor. She has a Certificate in International School Leadership from the Principals' Training Centre and a MA in Global Learning and Development Education. Her free time is spent with friends and family enjoying new experiences

Robina Nalumu is a distinguished aviation professional with 25 years of experience, primarily in humanitarian operations. Her career at Air Serv has seen her successfully lead missions in challenging locales including the DRC, Afghanistan, Indonesia, and Chad. Currently, she is the Country Representative in South Sudan, managing the crucial "last mile humanitarian air transportation" project in Juba. Robina's leadership and dedication have made her a pivotal figure in international humanitarian aid.

She holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Fairfax University in the United Kingdom and a Post Graduate Degree from the University of Leicester.
